Interacting Beyond the Keyboard and Mouse

The range of interaction technologies is growing rapidly, and much work remains to be done on understanding the best ways to interact with these technologies. Our work spans the gamut from novel interaction techniques for mobile phones (including pro-active task support, around-body interaction, and air+touch techniques), to structured toolkit-level support for handling and providing feedback about the uncertainty that frequently arises with newer sensing and recognition technologies, to improving the ability of 3d interaction systems to sense intent-to-interact.
Our work also includes novel methods and tools for early stage prototyping and analysis (such as the Momento toolkit), tools and methods for managing peripheral and ambient displays, new algorithms for location prediction and extraction of routines from time series data, and advances in machine learning in the face of very sparse or expensive to collect data.
